High School Summer Session

ACADEMIC SUMMER SESSION INFORMATION

This year we will follow a virtual format for all summer classes.

Summer 2021 Calendar

Monday, June 21 - Classes Begin

Thursday, July 15 - Prep Classes End

Thursday, July 22 - High School Classes End

*Summer High School students should sign up for classes online through the Veracross Parent Portal.

Teachers will email students with instructions and course expectations. Classes will be held online at the designated times unless the instructor provides different instructions.

Students are expected to be on the Google Meet at the times as if classes were being held in-person. Parents are encouraged to register before Friday, June 19 as class materials will start being distributed by email on that day. 

Books for most courses are the same as those required during the year. For any classes that have required books to be purchased such as English and Social Studies, these books must be ordered through during registration. This is a separate fee. Books will be ordered based upon enrollment. 

An email notification will be sent out when these materials are available for pickup through the counseling center early next week. Please call in advance to arrange a time during regular office hours.

The following courses may be taken as repeat courses for credit or to improve grades. No original credit may be obtained. All classes for Summer 2020 will be held VIRTUAL ONLY.

The following courses may be offered for original credit at DeMatha and are available to DeMatha students only:
 
Fundamentals of Art – ½ credit (NOT OFFERED)
Research & Presentation – ½ credit (NOT OFFERED)

 

Academic Requirements

 
Any student who has received a grade of F in a course must attend DeMatha's High School Summer Session assuming that the course is offered. At the high school level, the courses offered are Active Physics, , Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Part 1, Algebra 1 Part 2, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, all levels of English, World History, U.S. History, Spanish 1, Spanish 2, German, and all levels of Theology.

Students are also required to attend the summer session if they meet one of the following criteria:
  • A grade of D in regular Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Part 1/2, or Algebra 2
  • A grade of D in the first two levels of a foreign language
Special Notes:
  • A grade of D in Honors Algebra 1 or Honors Algebra 2 does not result in required summer school. The student will drop out of the honors math program.
  • In some cases, the student will be asked to repeat the course.
Failure to make up a class in summer school will result in a $400 fee being assessed for administrative and scheduling purposes

Students are encouraged to attend Summer School to improve their grade in particular courses. Both course attempts appear on the transcript and are averaged into a student's career GPA. For students seeking athletic scholarships, the NCAA Clearinghouse will accept the Summer School grade as a replacement for the original grade.

Registration Procedure

 
Current DeMatha Students:
 
1. Please wait until you receive a final report card BY MAIL to avoid registering for the wrong class. Parents must log in to the Veracross Parent Portal.
 

2. Click on the banner for Summer School Registration.

3. Follow the instructions to select courses and make payment. Enrollment is not complete until all fees have been paid.  Partial payments are not accepted online.

Non-DeMatha Students:

1. Parents should follow the instructions to setup an account. You will then be directed to select courses and make payment. Enrollment is not complete until all fees have been paid.
 
 

Summer 2020 Tuition and Fees

 
Remedial Course: $500
Original Credit Course: $600
Tutorial Courses $250
 
Some courses require books to be purchased. These items are NOT included as part of tuition, but must be paid for during the registration process. Please read all course descriptions for more information. All purchases will be provided to program students through the Counselling Center.
 

Refund Policy

 
1. Students who withdraw prior to attending class will have all tuition less $50.00 refunded.
 
2. Students who withdraw from school before five class days will have one-half of the tuition refunded.
 
3. Students who withdraw from school after five class days are responsible for full payment of tuition.
 
The above pertains to each class for which students register.
 

Attendance Regulations

 
Two absences from any virtual class meeting is allowed for illness or family emergencies only. Credit will not be awarded by DeMatha for students who miss more than two classes. Truancy may result in dismissal from summer school. Excessive lateness to class may accumulate to an absence.
 

Dress Regulations

 
Summer school students are not required to be in any specific uniform; however, all students are expected while attending virtual meetings to be dressed and groomed in a manner which befits school attendance. Halter tops, tank tops and midriff type apparel are not allowed. Additional Rules and Regulations will be provided at registration and posted on the website: www.dematha.org. Students are expected to follow all rules and regulations. Any violation of these rules may result in dismissal from the Summer Session.

*The Director of the Summer Session reserves the right to cancel any course of study when fewer than ten students enroll in the course.
