Graduation Requirements

Theological Studies | 4 credits Students entering after the 9th grade earn one credit each year at DeMatha |
English | 4 credits These include only English 9, American Literature, World Literature, and British Literature plus a Senior Seminar |
Social Studies | 3 credits These include World History or AP Human Geography, U.S. History, and Government |
Sciences | 3 credits* (4 credits are recommended) |
Mathematics | 4 credits |
Health and Physical Education | 1/2 credit in each |
Arts | 1/2 credit At least one fine arts class is required |
Christian Service | 65 hours Hours of Christian service required during Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. |
Note: All students must earn a minimum of seven credits per year while in attendance at DeMatha (6.5 senior year). Independent Study courses, Body Composition, and repeated electives do NOT count toward their credit minimums. Likewise, the extra ½ credit awarded for AP Biology, AP Chemistry and AP Calculus BC does NOT count toward this six credit minimum.
Diplomas with Distinction
Beginning the 2014-2015 School Year, DeMatha will offer Diplomas with Distinction in the Humanities, Science and Mathematics, and the Arts. A Diploma with Distinction exhibits a student’s commitment to and expertise in a subject area.Humanities (English, Theology, Social Studies, and Languages)
Completion of 33 semesters of work with a GPA of 3.8 or above. (A semester could be added by being a member of the Mock Trial Team, the DeMatha Players, or some other club that the administration considers worthy of inclusion).
Science and Mathematics (Science, Math, and Computer Science)
Completion of 19 semesters of work with a GPA of 3.8 or above. (A semester could be added by being a member of the Science Scholars, Science Club, Robotics Club or the ACE/Ecology for one year)
Arts (Music and Fine Arts)
Completion of 11 semesters of academic work with a GPA of 3.8 or above. A student must take at least one academic semester in music and a fine art.
