Mission
The Academic Quiz Bowl is one of DeMatha’s oldest clubs, having its origins in the first decades of the school’s existence. It competes in the cutthroat Washington DC/Baltimore metropolitan region quiz bowl circuit, making its mark both in local competitions and in the longest-running, most successful televised game-show competition in history, NBC’s “It’s Academic!”
The premise of the sport is simple: Two or more teams compete with buzzers to answer trivia questions about topics as diverse as football and philosophy, video games and variable equations, biking and botany, Jason Campbell and Immanuel Kant.
The AQB Stags of today seek, through the practice of their art, to maintain the vibrancy of the organization which has won gained numerous victories and made it to multiple playoffs.
