Daily Mass will be celebrated during the interim period at 10:30 a.m. in the school chapel. All are welcome to spend some time in prayer every day.

Summer Science Opportunity The University of Maryland College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences will offer the Jump Start 2017 Program in July. This is a week-long immersion program offered on the campus of The University of Maryland-College Park. The 2017 program will focus on biomedical science. Acceptance is on a competitive basis and for those accepted the program is free. The program is open to current sophomores and juniors. Applications are due no later than March 15. Service Opportunity: Tutors are needed at Montpelier Elementary in Laurel, MD ASAP. Please contact Ms. Haghtalab at for information.

Junior Ring Ceremony will be held next Thursday, February 23 at 6:00 pm. Location to be announced.

Fundraiser/Bake Sale, February 23rd: At DeMatha we are honored to have one of our own, Jake Dolinger competing for the title of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Students of the Year – Jake along with his teammates Joey Hood, and Jackson Holtzman will be giving their all in a fundraising competition against 13 other teams from high schools across the state. Jake and his team have a $50,000 goal and if achieved DeMatha will be honored by having a research grant named in stag honor. Please help by visiting the bake sale on February 23rd. The proceeds raised will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society which supports life-saving research leading to more effective treatments and cancer CURES! Jake’s mother is currently in a clinical trial battling Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia – let’s stand in stag solidarity with Joey, Jackson, Jake and his family and win this competition DeMatha Style!

Students Enrolled in AP Classes: There will be a mandatory meeting in the old gym during interim this Friday 2/17, for all students currently enrolled in advanced placement classes. It will be brief, but you will be given important information detailing the payment/registration process for exams in May. See Mr. Paolucci with questions.

Counseling Center:

  • Knights of Columbus Essay Contest- Deadline 3/31/17: The Knights of Columbus Washington Council welcomes Catholic students, grades 8-12, in the Archdiocese of Washington to participate in the 2017 Knights of Columbus Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest. Students are to write an essay on the theme of the "The Role of Virtues in Politics." Essay should be 500-750 words and in 12-size font. The grand prize winner will be awarded a $500 savings bond and their essay will be submitted to the International Essay Contest. The essay, along with an Entry Form/ Parent Consent Form, available in the Counseling Center, are due by Friday, March 31, 2017.
  • SAT/ACT Registration Workshop: Monday, February 27 at 1:00 pm (There's an early 12:50 dismissal). This is an optional event to receive assistance in registering for the exams. Bring a credit card to pay for your tests! $45 SAT/ $42.50 ACT.
