    School News


    • Tag Day

      There will be a tag day on Friday 3/12 sponsored by the Department of Sciences. As part of our environmental awareness program students should wear green. The cost is $2.00 and should be collected by homeroom teachers. Students who participate will be given a "Go Green" wristband.
    • Sinfonia

      DeMatha’s Sinfonia will participate in the Prince Georges’s County Orchestra Festival this Saturday, March 13th at Northwestern High School. They are to arrive at 12:30 in tuxedo. They perform at 2:25PM.
    • Mustang Mixer

      McNamara has invited DeMatha students as well as Seton students to a mixer on Friday, March 19th from 8:00 – 11:00 PM. Cost is $8. Students must pick up a permission slip from Mrs. Davis in the main office get it signed by parent or guardian and return permission slip and money to the main office. Cut off date is Wednesday, March 17th at 12:30. No tickets will be sold at the door. Dress is appropriate casual attire. Student ID’s required.
    • Bake Sale

      Friday, March 12th, the DPO will sponsor a bake sale during all lunch periods. All junior families are asked to donate store bought or home made baked goods. Items should be packaged or wrapped individually for sale. All items will be sold for 50 cents. Donations should be dropped off in the cafeteria in the morning, marked with the student’s name and left on the bar countertop. Students who donate backed goods will be entered into a drawing for 1 of 3 Chipotle gift cards. Thank you.
    • Big Brothers

      There will be a quick meeting of all Big Brothers in room 7302 in the new DeMatha Convocation Center after school on Friday 3/12.
    • Please Help the Victims of the Devastating Chilean Earthquake

      Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated and will assist in providing basic relief. Thank you. See Mr. Davies in room 326.
    • The DeMatha Players Present "Picasso at the Lapin Agile"

      A play by Steve Martin on Friday, March 12th, 8 PM, Saturday, March 13th, 2 PM and 8 PM, and Sunday, March 14th, 2 PM. The performance will take place at Bowie Center for the Performing Arts, next to Bowie High School. Tickets will be available starting Monday, March 8th for $7 from the bookstore. Tickets are for specific shows so you must pick which performance you will attend before purchase. Come on out and support the players.
    • Science Opportunities

      The University of Maryland is offering a three-week summer program for students in a broad range of academic areas. Science programs include the environment, science and engineering, and public health and wellness. Students can earn 3 university credits for their participation. The program dates are July 11-30, and applications are now being accepted. See Mr. Reeves for more information.
    • Science Expo Dinner

      Dinner (optional) will take place on Thursday, March 18th beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale from the Main Office. Dinner ticket prices are $10 for students and $15 for adults. The guest speaker and awards presentation will follow dinner and everyone is invited to this portion of the evening program. The guest speaker for this year’s annual Science Expo Dinner is Dr. James B. Garvin. His talk will be on the Science of Space and NASA’s next 50 years. Tickets for the dinner are now available in the main office or from Rick Reeves, with tickets priced at $10 for students and $15 for adults.

    • Reconciliation

      Reconciliation will take place in the chapel on Friday 3/12 during all lunch periods. You are welcomed to eat your lunch in the chapel to take advantage of the sacrament. Please take advantage of this opportunity during Lent!
    • June Service Trip - Sophomores and Juniors

      The sign-ups for the June service trip to Ashbury Park, NJ are now available in the CMO. Please stop by if you are interested – first come, first served!

    • LIFT College Tour

      March 31 – April 1, 2-day/1 night trip will visit University of Richmond, Duke University, North Carolina Central University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Bennett College and Winston-Salem State University. Cost is $275 with admission on a first come first serve basis. See Mrs. Mineweaser for more information and a registration form.
    • Jesuit College Fair

      On Friday, March 12 at 9:00am in Wootten Auditorium over 18 Jesuit colleges will be visiting DeMatha. All juniors are required to attend the college fair.
    • DMLI Applications

      Applications are now available in the Counseling Center for the Fourth Annual DeMatha Leadership Institute (DMLI). The Institute is available only to rising juniors and will be held June 14, 15, and 16. Applications are due on March 16. Please see Mrs. Stockton for more information and an application.
