Tri M Honor Society

Tri-M is the international honor society, sponsored by the national Association for Music Education, recognizing secondary music students for their musical ability, academic excellence, school involvement, and community service. 

DeMatha and Elizabeth Seton High Schools belong to Chapter 1657, and are moderated by Ms. Debora Hood and Mr. James Turk. Tri-M members must have a 3.0 GPA or above, carry an "A" in music classes, and be recommended by both a teacher and an administrator.  Tri-M stands for Modern Music Masters.

Tri-M Honor Society Induction October 2009

On Tuesday, October 20th, 42 music students from DeMatha and Seton joined the 40 returning members of Tri-M.  Officers for the 2009-2010 school year were also installed.  This year the officers are Richard Blorstad and Gabriela Sotomayor, Co-Presidents; Cory Frontin, Vice President; Andrew Ettinger, Secretary; Richard Coaxum, Treasurer; and Annette Englehart, Historian.

The 20 musicians inducted from DeMatha are Christopher Ackerman, Danny Baxter, Thomas Bayless, Matthew Braun, Arturo Carchedi, Nelson Carr, Andrew Eck, Ryan Higgins, Vernon Jones, Tyler Kendrick, Nolan King, Colin Lynch, Chris Moylan, David Pratico, Stephen Rinaldi, Nehemiah Russell, Eric Seith, Ian Smith, Michael Sprunk, and John Yates.

Tri-M Visits Bethesda Naval Hospital

On Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 Tri-M members, Tri-M alum, and family members from both DeMatha and Seton visited the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center.  There, they spent a little over an hour in various parts of the hospital lightening the mood by singing Christmas Carols for the sick, family, and staff who were at the medical center.

Tri-M Honor Society Induction Fall 2008

The Tri-M Music Honor Society welcomed 21 DeMatha instrumental and choral musicians to its ranks in a ceremony at Elizabeth Seton High School on October 21. New members are Gearet FitzPatrick, Jeffery Anthony, Matthew Parks, Alexander Gordon, Thomas Ashley, Kyle Herbert, Michael Ricciardi, JP Bailey, Jordan Keys, Greg Rozanski, Nathan Kopunek, Logan Seith, Michael D'Antonio, Aaron Logan, Andrew Ettinger, Peter Tarectecan, Matthew Fava, Andrew Velasquez, Michael Field, Buddy Paolucci and Curtis Williams Jr.

The guest speaker was Dr. John Barry Talley, Chair of Musical Activities at the United States Naval Academy (Retired). During the ceremony, Ryan Keehn was installed as the new Co-President with Kaitlin Connolly, along with Sean Smith as Secretary, Stephen Watkins as Treasurer and Cory Wilson as Historian.

Tri-M Honor Society Fall Induction 2007

Tri-M National Music Honor Society inducted 37 new members into the DeMatha-Seton Chapter 1657 on Monday, October 22. Ms. Mary Ellen Cohn, Executive Director of the Maryland Music Educators Association with years of dedication to music in Maryland schools, spoke to the gathering. Senior Shane Connolly is co-president of the honorary society and service organization.

Members must have maintain a 3.0 GPA, an A average in music, have completed one year of music and be recommended by his music teacher and an administrator. The 27 new DeMatha inductees are Joshua Atere, Richard Blorstad, Tyler Carlson, Michael Casto, Richard Coaxum, Gregory Cooke, John Crotty, Cory Frontin, Quinn Hargitai, Jamal Jackson, Ryan Keehn, Stephen Kempisty, Scott Kincaid, Joshua Kurikeshu, Richard Liska, Marc Mendoza, Christian Roper, Michael Schappacher, Robert Scott, Kenneth Sharpless, Sean Smith, Nicholas Vikor, Stephen Watkins, Michael Whiteley, Cory Wilson and Craig Wixon.

Tri-M Music Honor Society Induction Fall, 2006

The Tri-M Music Honor Society, Chapter 1657, representing DeMatha Catholic and Elizabeth Seton High Schools, inducted 25 new members on October 24th in a ceremony held in the McCarthy Activity Center. Fifteen of the new members were DeMatha musicians. Mr. Chris Vadala, professional musician and the Director of Jazz Studies and Saxophone Professor at the University of Maryland, delivered the Induction Address to the students and families.

Peter Morris '07 will serve as Co-President with Emily Busch, Shane Connolly '08 was elected Vice President and Brendan Ponton '08 is the Historian. Tri-M members must have a 3.0 GPA or above, carry an "A" in music classes, and be recommended by both a teacher and an administrator.

New inductees are seniors Jacob Wormley, Jeffery Wolter, Reggie Vergera, Dominic Thomas, Michael Pertmer, Paul Hutson and Tereston Bertrand; juniors: James Tillman, Steven Ramiro, Aaron Jones, and John Henise; sophomores Sean Walker, Ben Morris, Tevin Johnson and Tom Busch.
